On the evening of October
30, 2007, the Caribou High School was broken
into. Two individuals entered the premises
shortly before midnight and remained in and
around the building for about 3 hours as
determined by a camera system in the Vo-Tech
center. The individuals entered through a
Biology room window. From there the
perpetrators went into the main office area
by breaking the safety glass into the
office. The office had a large built-in safe
that the burglars were unsuccessful in
trying to open. Pry marks were observed on
the safe. The individuals also tried to gain
access through the guidance office wall but
again were thwarted by a brick wall.
Next the vandals entered the offices of
Principal Mark Jones and Assistant Principal
Dave Wakana by smashing the safety glass and
unlocking the door. There, damage was done
to Wakana's computer. The school nurse's
office was also broken into where a drug
cabinet with several medications in it was
accessed. Nurses do not believe any items or
drugs were taken.
The vending machine in the teachers lounge
had been broken into and destroyed and $20
taken from the machine's coin changer.
Damage to the machine was set at $1200.
The individuals could be seen on
surveillance video from the Vo-Tech's video
camera but image quality is poor and no
distinguishing features could be made out.
